BEAT CHAPPED LIPS WITH THIS DIY LIP SCRUB
Updated: Jun 17
ok ladies! that chill that comes with the fall season is starting to fill the air! so that means we get to dust off our scarves, thigh high boots and fuzzy socks; but although the weather change brings out comfy clothes, the cooler air also means drier skin. and what's one of the first places dry skin shows up? our lips!
our lips have some of the thinnest skin on our bodies and are filled with nerve endings so they're very sensitive to touch, feel, and temperature. the thin nature of the skin on our lips is also what causes them to get so inflamed from constant exposure to irritators like cold air, pollution, dehydration and even the constant lick of our lips.
they lack sweat glands unlike the skin on our bodies. sweat glands are responsible for producing the natural oils in our skin that keeps it moisturized. so it puts them at a disadvantage to get drier when compared to the rest of our skin.
so how can we combat the chapped lipped epidemic?
first thing's first, we have to drink water!
our lips are the first place dehydration will show up so we have to take care of ourselves from the inside and it'll show on the outside.
secondly, just like we would our face and body, we have to exfoliate and moisturize. now there are tons of lip scrubs on the market to choose from but if you're like me and sometimes don't want to spend $20 on a lip scrub, here's an easy recipe for a lip scrub that really helps soften and smooth your lips.💕
what you'll need:
-1/2 tbsp organic coconut sugar
-1/2 tbsp raw agave
-1/4 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
mix together and gently scrub lips for 2-3 minutes.😘
make sure you get the edges of your lips too! you know, so we can fight fine lines and wrinkles.😉
let mixture rest on your lips for about 5 minutes while you check your email and then rinse.
welcome to baby soft lips!
I like to use this once a week through the fall and winter to keep my lips in check!
If you choose to do this at night before bed, you can follow up with your favorite lip balm so it can really penetrate and do its thing while you sleep.😊
I like to use the rose vegan lip balm from biossance.👄
thanks so much for reading and I hope this mixture helps you fight chapped lips as temperatures drop this season.
feel free to hit me up if you have any questions!💕
