BEAUTY REVIEW: DE A-PASSIONI & C-FIRMA MIXTURE
ever since I was a lil' girl (starting at 12 years old to be honest) I've been on the hunt for skincare products to help my breakout prone skin be more manageable and, let's be real, prettier because I never wanted to wear make-up for the sake of covering up imperfections. I've experimented with more brands and ingredients than I can remember from all different price ranges. big thanks to my mom (rest her beautiful soul) for being willing to drop the cash to help me on this journey because she knew how much my uncooperative skin affected my teenage self-esteem.
fast forward to today, my 30 year old skin is still breakout prone although, I would be lying if I said it wasn't much better than it was 15 years ago. so, while I still make sure that my skincare routine(s) address preventing breakouts, I'm much more focused on not only anti-aging, because we out here tryin' to look 30 or younger for AS LONG AS POSSIBLE🤣, but also on uneven skin texture and dark marks.
yep, ya girl is a picker. always have been, and I'm suffering the consequences of it now. and while I did set a fall intention to stop picking at my face, I'm currently failing miserably.🤦♀️ but it's all good, dust ya-self off and try again, right?
but anyways, one of the very well known ingredients in the beauty world to help with both controlling breakouts and anti-aging, while evening out skin tone and texture, is retinol.
retinol is made from vitamin a, and it boosts the amount of collagen our skin makes. and I mean, who wouldn't want that?
typically, it's recommended that it be used at night as it can cause skin sensitivity, and it's been said that the sun breaks the retinol molecules down, making it less effective on the skin. It's also been said that retinol shouldn't be used in conjunction with antioxidants like vitamin c because they 'work at different pH values', or in the same routine as an AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) exfoliator for fear of 'over-exfoliating'. as of lately, these claims are being labeled as myths and are being debunked one at a time. that, my friends is where drunk elephant comes in.
drunk elephant is a clean beauty skincare company that not only has a 1.0% retinol--a-passioni--that is plant-based AND can be worn during the day, but they have a high percentage vitamin c serum (15% l-ascorbic acid)--c-firma--that they actually recommend be used WITH a-passioni in order to boost the effectiveness of the retinol.
now, I have been using a-passioni for a few months already and will say that it's definitely helped my skin feel softer, but I had yet to try both a-passioni and c-firma together.
this month I decided to give it a go and wanted to document my progress.📸
so, I present to you my skin over the last 30 days using a-passioni and c-firma together every morning.
I call the mixture skin crack!😂
this is my honest opinion and experience on how it's been going so far 'cause pictures don't lie.
I haven't changed anything else in my skincare routine, diet, or lifestyle during this. the pictures were taken on my iPhone; they are unedited and unfiltered. I tried to take them around the same time of day and in the same room to make sure that different lighting doesn't skew how my skin looks.
so, the mixture definitely goes on with a silky feel. It doesn't feel sticky or thick, and blends well with my moisturizer and sunscreen without feeling too heavy or oily.
I like that it even adds a lil' glow-y look right away as well.
14 days in, my skin feels smoother, and my skin tone is starting to even out slowly. It definitely has helped my skin heal a bit faster than it normally would, at least with small breakouts I've gotten so far that I've picked at.
ah, the week before my period...unfortunately the skin crack couldn't help me with the raging forces for nature that are stress or PMS breakouts (or both). right smack dab in the middle of my eyebrows too? the disrespect!😡
but in regards to the rest of my face, my skin tone is definitely continuing to even out, get smoother, and naturally more glow-y, and the post breakout mark on my forehead is starting to fade.
don't mind my eyes...ya girl is TIRED!😴
day 30 (today)
one month in ya girl is glowin'! the mark on my forehead is gone, the explosion in between my eyebrows is healed, and my skin tone and texture are drastically better than they were 30 days ago. the old scars on my face are definitely lightening up and the mini craters that my face has (really hard to tell in pictures on honestly, I have to be like 3 inches from a mirror to see them) have gotten a lot smaller.
here's the side by side comparison... combining the two has probably been one of the best things I've done for my skin to date. and while the products from drunk elephant are on the pricey side, they definitely are worth the investment AND they last a pretty long time. I just had to start using a new tube of a-passioni this month. I started the first tube in mid june!
you don't need to drown your skin in the products; literally a pea sized amount of a-passioni and one pump of c-firma is all you need to cover your whole face and then some.
I hope this was helpful if you're on the anti-aging train (and anti-scar train) like I am or are looking for products that really bring out the best in your skin.
thanks so much for reading and feel free to hit me up if you have any questions!💕
