SUMMER FAVORITES: AFFORDABLE PRODUCTS TO UPGRADE YOUR BODY CARE
Updated: Jun 17
hey there! It’s the middle of summer and the sun is shining bright, you know what that means…pool parties, beach bummin’, festivals, and anything else to be outside so we can soak up the sun. I mean that’s what summer’s all about, right? :)
during this season I think it's interesting how we religiously make sure we protect our faces so they don’t get burned because we want to avoid wrinkles at all costs. we put on sunscreen, wear hats, put on sunglasses; when we’re laying out we put a towel or our hat over our faces while we let the rest of our body get golden brown like a roasted chicken. all this got me thinking, why don’t we use the same effort when it comes to the skin on our body?
If we’re being real with ourselves, we randomly put on sunscreen, if we remember; sometimes we even put oil on to MAKE SURE we get a tan. we use scented body washes and lotions that are heavy in perfumes that we wouldn’t dare to put on our faces, and our loofah might be the only form of exfoliation that we use. so what’s the deal?
the reality is that the skin on our body ages just like the skin on our faces, and more so if we don’t take care of it! and I know sometimes skincare can get expensive so it might be intimidating to think of dropping that kind of cash on our face AND body; but it doesn’t have to be!
here are four affordable body products that I have found to give the skin on my body as much love as the skin on my face <3:
the seaweed bath co. hydrating body wash (~$11):
I use the eucalyptus & peppermint one because I adore the smell but they also have lavender and citrus vanilla if that’s more up your alley. It's scented using essential oils and not harsh fragrances; with seaweed being the main ingredient it detoxes, purifies, and cleanses all of the chemicals from the pool or pollution from the city air from your skin. To top it off it hydrates skin with coconut, olive, and kukui oils, all while being paraben and cruelty free!
aveeno daily moisturizing lotion with broad spectrum spf 15 (~$8):
aveeno has been a staple in my body care for years to keep my skin hydrated. the colloidal oatmeal that they’re famous for using in all of their products has been phenomenal at not only relieving dry skin but also, keeping moisture locked in long term. with the addition of sunscreen they took a great product and made it a MUST use for during the day, and what’s even better is that having the spf in the lotion doesn’t make it feel greasy like some sunscreens do. a total win-win!
amlactin alpha hydroxy therapy moisturizing body lotion (~$24 for 2 pack):
we always talk about using AHAs on our faces for exfoliation to help remove dead skin cells and reveal radiant & soft skin, lighten dark marks, and prevent wrinkles. this lotion takes that same principle and applies it to a body lotion. It contains 12% lactic acid—gentle enough for daily use—to help boost our skin’s renewal process. I typically use it before bed just like I use my facial AHAs. let me tell you it makes a world of difference, it not only makes skin softer, but it can help lighten scars and, an unexpected surprise, it even helps prevent ingrown hairs from shaving!
shea moisture coconut & hibiscus hand and body scrub (~$20 for 2 pack):
I cannot rave enough about the shea moisture brand! All of their products are free from all the nasty stuff like sulfates, parabens, and dyes; they’re certified organic and cruelty free so what’s not to love!?
this is great as an exfoliating treatment in the shower once or twice a week. It exfoliates with sugar while moisturizing using coconut oil, shea butter, and olive oil which helps skin feel silky smooth. It also contains antioxidant rich vitamin e to help prevent aging by fighting free radicals that our skin is exposed to daily in the environment.
I hope you’ve found this helpful if you’ve been wondering about ways to possibly better care for your body so it can match the glow of your face!
thanks for reading. I am not sponsored by any of these brands for these reviews.
