SUMMER FAVORITES: EXFOLIATORS THAT HELPED MY OILY/COMBO SKIN
hey y'all! I don't know about you but summer is my favorite season of the year. everything from the sun and heat to all of the fun activities to do outdoors to shake off the winter blues. but what I don't look forward to is how the heat and humidity crank up the oiliness of my skin by 1000%. between already having oily/breakout prone skin and working out daily the heat just adds the extra oomph my skin needs to get greasy and clog my pores.
I know I'm not the only one out there that has to deal with this so I wanted to share a few products that have helped control breakouts, tighten pores, and just bring a glow that isn't from forehead grease. LOL!
exfoliating is one of the main things that I have found to help with oily skin. particularly liquid or chemical exfoliators over scrubs because if you have a breakout and you scrub it you're just going to spread the bacteria and possibly cause breakouts to other parts of your face. one of the biggest acids that's recommended for oily skin is salicylic acid, which really does do a great job at clearing up breakouts but I have noticed that it can have the potential to dry out skin, and when oily skin gets dry it just gets even more oily to try to 'fix' the problem. glycolic acid on the other hand helps not only unclog pores and remove dead skin cells, it helps your skin retain moisture so it doesn't dry out. and as icing on the cake it helps lighten up post breakout marks!
now if you're anything like me, money is something to be conscious of. some months you got some extra dollars to splurge, and others you have to find ways to get the most for your money. so here are two daily and two weekly exfoliators from budget friendly to splurges that have helped keep my skin in check throughout this summer:
youth to the people 11% AHA toner:
I'm actually currently using this toner and it is amazing! one of the first things that's awesome about this toner is that it has the 'CLEAN AT SEPHORA' seal. that means that there's none of the no good preservatives and fillers like parabens and sulfates in it. this toner is great to use everyday. It's gentle enough to not dry out your skin but strong enough to really clear up your skin, tighten your pores, and even your skin tone and texture!
pixi by petra glow peel pads:
these pads are soaked in 20% glycolic acid! that's a bit high to use daily but it's great as a weekly treatment (used about twice a week.) the pads also have vitamin E and aloe vera in them to help sooth your skin to prevent any irritation from the high acid percentage. you put it on your freshly washed and dried face and leave it on for a a few minutes and then rinse off. definitely noticed that it helped with lightening up dark spots.
drunk elephant TLC framboos glycolic night serum:
for the splurge daily exfoliator this drunk elephant serum is AMAZING. it has 12% AHA/BHA meaning it has both glycolic and salicylic acid so it tackles a bunch of issues that plague oily skin from the actual breakouts to the aftermath that they leave behind all without drying out your skin!
drunk elephant products also have the 'CLEAN AT SEPHORA' seal so you know its made with good for you ingredients.
even though it's a splurge a little goes a long way so it does last you a while. can't go wrong with that!
drunk elephant TLC sukari babyfacial:
this by far has to be one of my favorite deep weekly exfoliators I've ever tried. I only use it once a week to really make it last because it has quite the price tag. it has a little over double the amount of AHA/BHA than the daily serum (25%) so it definitely gets deep in there. you can feel it working as soon as you put it on. I don't know about you, but I love to feel the tingle! It's a really nice weekly compliment to the daily serum. together they really do make a huge difference in making sure that your skin is soft, smooth and glowing!
you put it on clean skin and leave it for 20 minutes before you rinse.
that's all for today! If you have oily skin and needed some tips to care for it in the summer time, whether on a budget or you have some extra birthday money hanging around I hope you this post serves you well. and remember, when you're using exfoliators make sure you're using sunscreen during the day!
