SUMMER SKINCARE: MY SUNDAY FACIAL FOR GLOWING SKIN
Updated: Jun 17
happy labor day everyone!
If you've been looking for a great at-home facial routine to give your skin some life after the long weekend, here is my weekly ritual to keep my skin soft, smooth, and glowing.
I take self-care sunday very seriously, and use it as time to disconnect from my job and the world to reboot myself in body and in mind. with that, I always make sure I give myself a little facial for a nice 'pick me up' to start the next week fresh faced.. literally! I've been doing this particular routine every sunday for the last few months; it's very anti-aging focused as I'm about to enter my 30s and although I don't have wrinkles, I don't want them either! LOL
I'm on a mission to make 30 look 20, 50 look 30, and 70 look flawless! ya feel me? ;)
all the products bare the 'CLEAN AT SEPHORA' seal which ensures that they are only made with skin loving ingredients and don't have any bad fillers like sulfates and parabens!
here it is step by step:
youth to the people superfood cleanser:
this cleanser is awesome! I use it twice a day. It's super light and makes your skin feel squeaky clean without drying it out so your face doesn't feel super tight. It's filled with antioxidants to help fight free radicals and the green tea in it is a great anti-inflammatory so it helps calm breakouts.
on facial day I double cleanse which is exactly what it sounds like:
wash once to 'get the day off', you know, the pollution, oil, sweat, etc. and then wash again so that way the cleanser can really get into your pores and do its magic!
drunk elephant babyfacial:
I wrote about this exfoliator in a previous post a couple weeks and here it is again! this stuff is truly amazing. it has 25% AHA/BHA meaning it has both glycolic acid, which helps remove dead skin cells, and salicylic acid that helps directly treat breakouts.
It tingles as soon as you put it on so you can feel it hard at work.
use about 2-3 pumps and leave it on for 20 minutes and then wash it off with lukewarm water and pat your face dry.
revive light therapy red LED light:
LED light therapy has been exploding on the beauty scene the last couple of years and now there are affordable at home options so you don't have to pay a ridiculous amount at a medspa to reap the benefits of this bad boy.
red light is for anti-aging. It promotes the production of collagen and elastin so it helps with sun damage, age spots, and wrinkles.
(if you're looking for something to control oil and acne the blue light is for you!)
this device from revive light therapy is FDA approved for home use!
I hold it over my forehead, each cheek, and my mouth/chin for 3 minutes at a time and for a minute over each of my temples.
drunk elephant a-passioni retinol cream:
this is a 1.0% retinol cream.
I love retinol because it's a double whammy; it helps with cell turnover for anti-aging but also works on clearing up and preventing breakouts.
this is the first retinol I've used that's plant based and I was pleasantly surprised that it's just as effective as other 1.0% retinols on the market. I use it every morning but it works even better after the babyfacial since we just got rid of all those built up skin cells so now this baby can really sink in do it's thing!
side note: if you're doing your facial during the day and plan on going out into the sun, please use sunscreen as your skin will be more sensitive to light.
youth to the people superfood eye cream:
this eye cream is a little bit on the thicker side so you don't need to use that much to cover your whole eye area.
even though thick, thankfully it doesn't feel heavy or greasy when you put it on. it's filled with peptides to help fight against wrinkles!
If you want a de-puffing effect you can keep it in the fridge so when you put it on the cool cream can give your eyes new life!
remember the skin around your eyes is very sensitive so use your ring finger when putting on eye cream and sweep inwards towards your nose when you're working the undereye to prevent wrinkles!
I just use clockwise sweeps around my whole eye.
drunk elephant virgin marula facial oil:
this little baby comes with the babyfacial to use afterwards.
even though it's an oil it's light enough to not clog your pores for my fellow oily skin girls out there.
marula oil is full of antioxidants and amino acids so it's a great wrinkle fighter and for keeping your skin plump and smooth.
it even has anti-microbial properties so it helps keep bacteria in check to control breakouts.
a little goes a long way with this so I only use two pumps and it covers my whole face and neck.
and that's all folks! I hope you have a great labor day!
If you decide to give this routine a try I hope that it blesses you with glowing skin as much as it has blessed me. I am not sponsored by any of these brands to use or review these products.
thanks for reading and feel free to hit me up if you have any questions! <3
