WINTER FAVORITES: CLEAN SKINCARE TO FIGHT DRY SKIN
ooo how the winter air can be disrespectful AF to our skin! It seems to always be on a mission to steal all the moisture and leave us with ashy elbows and chapped lips. and although my skin is on the oilier side, it's definitely no stranger to the dryness that comes this time of year. so as winter is tryin' to take its best shots at my skin, ya girl's not goin' down without a fight!
here are the products I have been using so far to help me in the fight against dry skin this season:
shea moisture raw shea butter body wash
If you've been following along for a while, you would know that I LOVE me some shea moisture products when it comes to body care. and for good reason! their products are made with awesome wholesome ingredients while being cruelty free, and affordable! *insert wallet doing happy dance here*💃🏻
this body wash's main ingredients are organic shea butter and coconut oil, both of which are renown for their moisturizing properties. It lathers nicely so you can shave with it, has a very subtle scent so it shouldn't clash with your perfume of choice, and leaves your skin feeling clean, soft, and hydrated.
shea moisture raw shea butter body lotion
now this body lotion is absolutely AMAZING! just like the body wash, it's main ingredients are also organic shea butter and coconut oil. It's a little bit on the thicker side when compared to other lotions, but not so thick like a body butter. It provides some pretty intense moisture that quenches your skin's thirst all day long. I love to put it on when my skin is still a bit damp when I get out of shower so it locks in all of the hydration from the water.
It even helps with severe dryness. lately, before I switched to using this lotion I was starting to develop these rough patches of dry skin behind both of my knees and on my right hip. I was starting to wonder if I was developing eczema as an adult, but turns out it was just really bad dry skin. after using this lotion every day for the last three weeks those patches are now completely gone and my skin looks normal again!
laneige lip sleeping mask
oh the plague of chapped lips! with the skin on our lips being more sensitive than skin anywhere else on our bodies, they're definitely the first to feel the brunt of the cold winter air. but let me tell you, this lip mask right here is down right incredible. It's thick and lathers on with the consistency of a lip gloss.
a little goes a long way so no need to go overboard with the layering, which is a total win because it costs between $15-$20, so you're goin' to want this sucker to last so you can get your money's worth.
now there's no rule that says you can't use this during the day, but I only use it at night. when you wake up your lips feel baby soft and well cared for.
If you really want this baby to sink in and work it's magic but don't want to drop cash on a lip scrub (guilty!🙋🏻♀️), try using this DIY lip scrub to exfoliate away any dead skin cells, making your lips ready to absorb all the goodness the mask has to offer.
you can use the scrub once or twice a week.
ole henriken PHAT glow facial
exfoliation is a vital part of a skincare routine regardless of the time of year to help keep smooth and youthful but, as the weather changes, it can affect how our skin reacts to stronger exfoliators like AHAs and BHAs (think glycolic acid and salicylic acid).
the glow facial from ole henriksen is wonderful because it gets rid of dead skin cells just as effectively as the other acids, but without any of the irritation that can come from increased skin sensitivity during the winter months. It exfoliates using PHAs (poly hydroxy acids).
the molecules in PHAs are bigger than those of other acids so they don't go as deep as they bind to the 'glue' that holds our skin cells together to loosen it up, so the dead skin is lifted up and goes bye bye!👋🏼
to use, take about 2 pumps and massage it over clean, dry skin. It goes on pink and, as you massage it into your skin, it turns white. leave it on for 15 minutes and then wipe it off with a damp towel.
you'll have a noticeable glow immediately after! you can use it day or night, but if you choose to use it during the day make sure to put on your favorite sunscreen to block out any UV rays (even if it's a cloudy day because they're sneaky and definitely travel through the clouds).
It can be used up to two times per week although, I choose to use it once a week.
youth to the people superberry dream mask
I have to admit that although this mask is said to work well with all skin types I was a bit nervous that it would make me breakout because of how thick it is, but it hasn't increased my breakouts at all; nor has it made my skin feel more oily, or greasy. It has definitely helped keep my skin balanced, hydrated, and soft. the vitamin c helps with skin brightening while maqui, a superfruit, is loaded with antioxidants to help fight inflammation and free radicals, AKA help calm inflamed skin and combat signs of aging. the squalene it contains is a skin hydrator that mimics your skin's natural oils so you get the added moisture that skin needs this time of year but, without clogging your pores.
and all of the oily skinned girls lifted their arms up in praise!🙌🏼
now although it says 'mask' you do not wash this off when you use it, and you also don't have to use large amounts like you would your usual face mask. use just enough to cover your face and neck like you would your normal moisturizer.
this mask is to be only used at night. cleanse and dry your face like you normally would, use whatever nightly serums that are a part of your skincare routine, then use this as your moisturizer, and wake up to radiant skin!
so if you've also found yourself in a battle with dry winter skin, whether face, body, or lips, I hope you found this post helpful in your search for a potential solution! If you decide to use any of these I would love to hear how it's going for you.
thanks so much for reading today.💕
